It can be difficult at first with friends and family. These people know us best, and over time, see the improvement in our health. Many of my close family members, that know my long term health problems with allergies and asthma, have been profoundly surprised by my complete recovery. This type success has a powerful effect on loved ones.

SCD does cause problems because well meaning friends and family offer all sorts of yummy foods when you visit, and if you are always turning down offers they get frustrated and upset that you wont eat what they made or what they offer. It goes with any elimination diet. When I eliminated dairy for a while it was very similar. But packing dried fruit and almonds all the time helps.

We would like to be listed under farm and ranches within 159 km. We are at Barriere. We have naturally raised Highland beef, eggs from heritage chickens, and naturally raised meat chickens

Thank you for your comment. You are so right about the diet improving mental health and thus improving personal relationships!

I have had trouble at times with the school system and extended family not "believing" in the SCD. My child's health depends on these authority figures accepting the SCD, but many have no experience with the diet or its power to heal. Many people just don't believe me when I tell them my story or how the diet has improved my child's health.

An adult on the SCD doesn't have these problems but has to battle against a "toxic" food environment and years of habit. The external pressures are real, but it is our responsibility to take care of our own bodies. Good boundaries are a must!

Thanks, Caroline

Respectfully, I would disagree with the statement that SCD will cause social and family problems. While I realize that *poor boundaries* between the SCDer and his companions can potentially cause issues, in terms of the diet itself, in resolving major health issues, SCD more often has the effect of resolving violence, anger, depression, etc, thus making all relations more peaceable.

Regarding the challenges of SCD, the book GAPS Guide breaks down the steps and questions and makes it quite straightforward.

Cheers,
S.
